BIOGRAPHY
Alex is an upright and electric bassist residing in the Bay Area, California. A 2019 graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana, Alex received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies - Double Bass degree. He had the opportunity to study with Jeremy Allen and Todd Coolman, as well as work with world-renown artists including Jason Palmer, Kurt Elling, Darmon Meader, Kate McGarry, Sunny Wilkinson, John Raymond, Walter Smith III, Brent Wallarab, Steve Houghton, Felix Peikli, Gregory Tardy, Rick Latham, Bob Sheppard, as well as Bay Area natives Michael Spiro, Wayne Wallace, and Murray Low. He has performed at the Monterey Jazz Fest in Monterey, CA, as well as the NAMM Show on the Yamaha Grand Plaza Stage at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.
Alex is versatile in many genres of music including jazz, Latin, rock, pop, blues, and country. He performs a variety of different gigs ranging from indoor and outdoor concerts, festivals, corporate events, parties, and more. He is active in several different groups including his own jazz project the Alex Valdez Trio. As an educator, he's taught private lessons and has instructed different musical ensembles to include high school and college bands.
